For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed in us.
One Sunday I was sitting in church listening to my priest solemnly announce that our sister parish in the middle east, in Hauran Syria, was surrounded by rebels intent on exterminating the Christian population, as well as other religious minorities. In an instant I realized I was one handshake away from thousands of people who are experiencing extreme persecution and violence. Like everyone else, I knew all about the violence taking place in the Middle East via the news. However, having people in my Church in Texas with family members being exterminated or fleeing as refugees brought this from the TV screen to my church pew. Living on the other side of the world, with a family of 5, and with no experience in relief work, I initially felt I couldn't do much to help. Being a musician, I got the idea of using music as a tool to raise awareness and funds.
